Ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard Aviation Dental with service from discomfort to relief.

Dr. Derek Bosch

Dentist, DDS

I have been practicing dentistry since 1979 and received my DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) from the University of Toronto. I moved to Calgary at that time and had a dental practice in NW Calgary for many years. I moved the office downtown in 2009.

I enjoy being a dentist. As a general dentist, I am usually able to see a case through from start to finish. An attractive smile is a beautiful thing, and I love to be able to create things of beauty. I enjoy cases that allow some creative license. If I can keep it simple – that’s great. If it has to be more involved – we have to do what it takes. If you look through some of the cases in the photo gallery, I hope you will be able to see why I might like my job.

Dentistry is a profession that allows me to use my hands and my head and use some cool technology too. With all of the diverse elements involved, it means I still consider it a privilege to be involved in the profession at a time when so many wonderful things are possible. It’s not always easy, but it is rewarding. I devote a great deal of time to continuing dental education to stay abreast of the many developments in dental care. There have been many changes over my 30 years as a dentist and there is always more to learn. Also, after 30 years as a dentist, there are families where I have seen the children grow up to become parents themselves and bring in their own children so that I get to know three generations of some families. I like that about my job too.

To satisfy my love of travel and languages, my hobby of photography and to gain some further perspectives both on dentistry and on life in general, I have worked overseas as a dental volunteer on 14 occasions – having had the opportunity to work in Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. There I could simultaneously pull some teeth and practice French and Spanish. Occasionally I still get to visit some relatives in Holland and to keep my childhood Dutch from getting too rusty.

I am proud to be the Business Manager of Aviation Dental. I am honoured to be managing a company with such a passion for making a difference in the lives of all people. I look forward to being a part of continued positive growth within our team members.

I am also the owner of Lathered Chestermere. I am living my dream, running Aviation Dental and being a franchise owner gives me the opportunity to have a lasting impact on the lives of my team and customers every day. Being in a position to make positive change is a true gift.

Over the last 20 years, I have had the opportunity to work as an RDA, Treatment co-ordinator, Business administrator, Senior clinical director, Manager and Business owner.

I am a huge advocate for lifelong learning and I am currently focusing on continuing my education in the area of successful large corporation management.

I have a passion for children and giving back to the community. Being involved with Kiwanis has given me the opportunity to see how small changes can make a big difference. My aspirations are to improve the quality of life for children on the Autism spectrum.

In my spare time, I enjoy living an active lifestyle with my 3 young children.

Luis Alvarez-Hansen

RDA and Assistant Manager

I was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  I obtained a dental diploma and had a dental practice for many years in my country of origin.  Since moving to Canada in 2011, I have been working as a licensed RDA.  I am very passionate about what I do.  My main concern is that my patient has a wonderful dental experience.

Outside the daily routine, my wife and I are social butterflies and like to surround ourselves with family and friends to share our love for good food and good conversation.  I learned how to cook at a very young age and cooking has become another passion of mine.  I have developed and mastered other talents after so many years of working in dentistry- so I am very handy both at the office and at home.  I have been recently introduced to fly fishing.  It is a very calming and mentally rewarding experience that I often enjoy during my spare time.
